Beachgoers and small craft operators are being asked to exercise caution or stay out of the water for the remainder of the week.
The Barbados Meteorological Services issued a small craft advisory which will be in effect from 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
A small-craft advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 to 3.0 metres (8 to 10 feet) are affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.
Strong surface winds associated with the Atlantic high-pressure system are expected to result in a deterioration of sea swells across Barbados and the eastern Caribbean. Residents and visitors should expect moderate to rough easterly swells off the eastern, northern and southeastern shores of Barbados.
These conditions are forecast to affect the marine area from Wednesday morning and for the remainder of the week.
Large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels and operation of smaller vessels may be difficult at times. (PR/SAT)
