Portvale problems hold up harvesting

For three consecutive days no sugar canes have been harvested across the island because of issues at Portvale Sugar Factory.

Yesterday morning officials at the Blowers, St James factory told the Weekend Nation the problems had not been resolved, and they were engaged in meetings throughout the day and working on the matter.

When contacted late last night, deputy operations manager Marlon Monroe, said he would provide an update as soon as he could.

On Wednesday, Monroe had said one of the boilers developed a leak. (SB)
