Wyndham Grand Hotel, currently under construction on the site of the former Sam Lord’s Castle is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Dr Jerome Walcott said yesterday 350 rooms of the 450-room hotel which is being built with a US$170 million loan from China’s Exim Bank, have already been completed.
He disclosed the hotel will be sold “to the private sector” on completion, since Government did “not want to be in the business of running hotels.”
Walcott gave a detailed update on the St Philip hotel project and others, while leading off debate on the Appropriation Bill in the Senate as part of his report on a wide range of capital projects which come under the ambit of Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. and which could lead to the transformation of Bridgetown into a major tourism hub, since at least three hotels are targeted for construction in the city.
