NUPW frowns on Govt’s contract plan

The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) is calling the plan to have senior public workers placed on contract a “political” move and a bid to exercise greater control.

Acting general secretary Wayne Walrond said while the proposal was not new, they were concerned and “surprised” by the “across the board statement”. He said the matter should first be discussed with stakeholders as it alters the terms and conditions of those officers.

Last month Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw said the post of Chief Education Officer was due to be contractual, along with all the other key positions across Government.

“That is the direction pretty much everything is going,” she said, as she revealed that school principals would also be appointed on a contractual basis and this could be implemented as early as September. (GBM)
