Barbadian final year CARIFTA athletics competitors are once again devastated following the cancellation of the region’s premier junior track and field event.

The North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) on Monday announced that the CARIFTA Games scheduled for August 13-15 in Hamilton, Bermuda, were abandoned.

The news ends the CARIFTA careers of several athletes in the Under-20 division after last year’s meet was also cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Overseas-based sprint hurdler Sarah Belle, who won silver in the women’s 100 metre hurdles in 2019 at the showpiece in the Cayman Islands, said she had her eyes set on snatching gold and upsetting Jamaican rival Ackera Nugent. (AGB)
