Members of the lobby group, Caribbean Against Apartheid in Palestine have delivered a letter to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr Jerome Walcott requesting that government establish a diplomatic relationship with the state of Palestine.

A large crowd assembled outside of the Culloden Road, St. Michael office of the ministry with chants of “Free Palestine”.

Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire on Thursday, after 11 days of conflict that caused widespread destruction in the Gaza Strip and left more than 200 people dead.

The latest outbreak of violence began last month in East Jerusalem, after an Israeli court ordered the evictions of Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood.

The competing claims to Jerusalem lie at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflicted and have repeatedly triggered bouts of violence in the past.
