The Barbados Tridents will be on a mission to silence the home fans and dent Dominican Republic’s hopes of advancing to the next round of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign in a must-win game tomorrow at the Felix Sanchez Stadium here in Santo Domingo.
Head coach Russell “the little magician” Latapy said his players can compete with any team in the region and is aiming to entertain and penetrate the opponents’ defence when the match kicks off at 7 p.m. Barbados time.
There is a buzz in the atmosphere surrounding the away team despite the absence of captain Rashad Jules and Holland-based winger Ryan Trotman, nevertheless, during a pre-game press conference yesterday afternoon, Latapy said the dressing room is upbeat ahead of Friday’s match.
“I’m hoping that we will be able to do enough to keep the [home] fans quiet. The boys are in good spirits. I have some technically gifted players in Omani Leacock, Romario Drakes, Hallam Hope and Thierry Gale and I really want them to get the ball, go at people and entertain us because football is entertainment, but I want entertainment with results,” Latapy told reporters.
