ZAGAN, under Rasheed Hughes, won the BB $20,000 feature St. Ann’s Garrison Handicap on Friday at the Garrison Savannah.
The imposing five-year-old, bay horse, which is owned by the Raisman brothers and trained by Richard Deane, dictated terms to land the 1,100-metre sprint for horses rated 110-90.
He clocked a nifty one minute, 05.1 seconds to outlast pre-race favourite Gandalf by 1 ¾ lengths, as well as Trini Aviator and Stolen in the eighth race on the card, which was contested on a good to firm track.
Champion trainer Victor Cheeseman saddled three winners on the day – Dashing Star, Dream Society and Quality Star – and Andrew Nunes, Jonathon Simpson and Richard Deane rounded out the other winning conditioners.
Hughes, brothers Antonio Bishop and Affrie Ward, and apprentice Kemar Kelly all collected braces in the saddle with Levi Cadogan the only owner to produce multiple winners.
