Barbadian Formula 3 driver Zane Maloney secured his third podium of the 2021 Formula Regional European Championship, finishing third in Race One at the Circuit de Spa-FrancorchampsĀ this evening in Belgium.

Maloney started the race in a favourable fifth position on the grid after placing fifth in both qualifying practice sessions earlier this morning.

Driving in rainy conditions which limited visibility and dexterity, Maloney, who began the race in fifth position on the grid,Ā was in second placeĀ for most of the proceedingsĀ behind eventual winner Michael BelovĀ of G4 Racing who celebrated his and his teamā€™s first victory of the season.

A late mistake in the final lap of the raceĀ would no doubt leave Maloney frustrated as itĀ allowed his R-ace GP teammate Hadrien David to steal second place and with the treacherous nature of the track and little time remaining,Ā the BarbadianĀ was unable to mount a comeback.

Seventeen-year-old Swedish driver Dino Begnovic placed fourth in addition to being the first rookie driver to cross the chequered line. Driversā€™ championship leader Gregoire Saucy finished eighth and will hope to do better when he starts from pole position in Race Two which commences Sunday morning at 5:35.

Maloney will again start in fifth place.Ā Ā  (NM)
