Dear Helen, I’ve heard of Kegel exercises for women but are there Kegel exercises for men? –
Dennis
Dear Dennis,
Kegel exercises are for both men and women since both sexes have pelvic floor muscles that can benefit from strengthening as we age. You’d do them the same way. Just pretend you’re stopping yourself from passing urine (having a pee) without clenching your buttocks. If you move the buttock muscles, you’re not doing the exercise correctly. Keep the buttock still and squeeze the inner muscles. It’s quite an obvious sensation when you get it right.
Do this in repetitive sets of x10 at a time, two or three times a day plus after passing urine or opening your bowels, sneezing or coughing and things should tighten nicely. Some even suggest that it may help a man’s sexual performance!
If you are noticing a dribbling when you’ve passed urine or any other changes in the general area, please don’t selfdiagnose but see your doctor for a general ‘well man’ check.
I hope this helps. – Helen
