The Pan African Coalition of Organisations and the Caribbean Movement for Peace and Integration organised a public rally at the Emancipation Statue, Haggatt Hall, St Michael this morning to commemorate Emancipation Day.
Members of these organisations came to reflect on the historic, revolutionary and “courageous” efforts of people who paved the way for nation’s independence in 1966.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office With Responsibility for Culture John King asked Barbadians if they knew what their identity was and questioned if they valued themselves based on how much money they make, where they went to school or based on who their parents are.
Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM David Comissiong championed Government’s move for Barbados to become a republic, saying that it is another step in the island’s journey of freedom. (SB)
