The man charged in connection with the arson of a house and the death of one of the occupants was further remanded to prison as both the prosecution and his attorney admitted there had been “a development” in his matter.

Brian Oneal Browne, a 33-year-old mason, of Eastbourne No. 1, St Philip, made a second appearance in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court on Monday where he is facing the charge of murdering Janice Mitchell on July 13.

The accused was also charged that without lawful excuse, on July 10, he damaged Janice Mitchell’s house by fire, intending to damage it or was reckless as to whether it was damaged.

He was also not required to plead to doing serious bodily harm to Keisha Mitchell with intent, as well as causing serious bodily harm to one-year-old Haylee Mitchell with intent, also on July 10.

Yesterday, his attorney Queen’s Counsel Michael Lashley pointed to a development in the matter, a point reiterated by prosecutor Sergeant Victoria Taitt, who called it a “significant development”.

“But we don’t have that new charge as yet but our objections remain the same.” (HLE)
