Captain calls for patient batting

West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite says batting will once again be crucial to the outcome of the decisive, second Test against Pakistan, starting today at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

The Windies clawed their way to a one-wicket victory in the first Test, which ended last Sunday at the same venue and took an unbeatable 1-0 lead in the two-match series that forms part of the new round of the World Test Championship.

On a helpful surface, the pace bowling units of the two teams shone brilliantly, but the batsmen on the two teams earned few marks for their durability or consistency, and they will want to put things right the second time around.

Brathwaite was one of the few batsmen that enhanced his reputation in the match with a solid 97 in the first innings, but he, too, failed to live up to the mark in the second innings when his side were set a modest victory target. (AR)
