Kingston – Pakistan, sent into bat, were 62 for three in their first innings at lunch on the first day of the second Test against West Indies on Friday in Jamaica.
Kemar Roach and fellow pacer Jayden Seales gave the Windies a strong start to the Test being played at Sabina Park when they reduced the Pakistanis to two runs for three wickets inside the first half-hour.
But the Caribbean side failed to build on the early work of their new-ball pair, and the visitors’ captain Babar Azam, not out on 31, and left-hander Fawad Alam, not out on 26, stabilised the innings with an unbroken stand of 60 for the fourth wicket.
Roach struck with the third ball of the match, when he had Abid Ali caught at second slip for one, and then claimed former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali caught behind for a six-ball duck in his second over.
The long-standing Windies paceman has taken 2-13 from his seven overs.
Seales tightened West Indies’ early grip, when he had Imran Butt caught behind for one, and the visitors top-order failed to ease concerns about their quality.
Both teams made one change to their line-ups from the previous match, with the Windies bringing in Alzarri Joseph to replace left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, and the Pakistanis replacing leg-spinner Yasir Shah with left-arm spinner Nauman Ali.
The hosts lead the two-match series 1-0, after a one-wicket victory inside four days in the first Test that ended last Sunday at the same venue.
Summarised scores:
Pakistan 62 for three (Babar Azam 31 not out, Fawad Alam 26 not out; Kemar Roach 2-13) vs West Indies.
