Leading Barbadian trainer Saffie Joseph Jr powered into a position of supremacy in Florida by grabbing four wins last weekend, highlighted by Saturday’s Stakes success of Eldon’s Prince at Gulfstream Park.
The two-year-old roan colt with a sweeping outside bid demolished his six opponents by six lengths in the US$75 000 Proudman Stakes over 1 600 metres on the turf in 1:36.79 minutes.
Before that win in race number 10, Jospeh triumphed in race six with two-year-old bay filly Harper Be Good who overcame a less than ideal start to rally home by one and a quarter lengths.
Partnered by jockey Edwin Gonzalves, the pair took the Maiden Special Weight 1 400 metres sprint in 1:26.46 minutes.
Joseph got his third win on Saturday when Daria’s Angel won Monmouth Park’s fifth race in New Jersey by two and a half lengths. The seven-year-old brown mare ran the 1 600 metres Allowance optional Claiming event in 1:38.40 minutes. (LY)
