The Barbados Boxing Association (BBA) intends to seriously revamp and revitalise the sport of boxing in Barbados for the benefit of present and future stakeholders and the wider Caribbean region.

This assertion was made by BBA president Dr Melissa Branford-Jones to coincide with today’s celebration of International Boxing Day.

The celebration, which is now in its fifth year, is usually observed on July 22 but was moved to August 27 to connect the date with the first edition of the AIBA World Boxing Championships held in Havana, Cuba, in 1974.

Branford-Jones was elected president four months ago and has been feverishly working to improve the operations of the association with special regard to the training of boxers and officials through specialised programmes and initiatives. (NM)
