A late intervention by the Ministry of Education has halted protest action by parents and teachers of Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary School.
The stage had been set for “a quiet and peaceful protest” by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) today at 8 a.m. Nine months ago the school was disrupted when students and staff were relocated because of structural problems there.
The group organised the protest action to get answers from the ministry concerning accommodation of the pupils. The PTA said some parents were considering withdrawing their children from the school because of the uncertainty about the academic term, due to start in a few weeks.
However, after the weekly Cabinet meeting yesterday, Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw said approval had been given for a $2.9 million supplementary for major renovations at the 55-year-old school that would take 12 weeks. (AC)
