Although the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the availability of local employment opportunities, a number of young Barbadians have been granted the chance to work abroad.
Managing director of Trinity Recruitment Services Inc., Judeen Scantlebury, told The Nation another group of young people made their way to the United Arab Emirates two Sundays ago and preparations were ongoing for the third group to follow.
Late last month, the first group (seven candidates) left and Scantlebury said they were settling in well. There were no reports of discomfort and the candidates were feeling excited and grateful to gain international work experience.
This time around, five candidates, ages 21 to 26, travelled to Dubai to work full time and for internships in the culinary arts and food and beverage fields.
These candidates will join the others at a five-star hotel in Dubai where they will receive full accommodation.
Scantlebury said there was greater response to the job opportunities being offered since the first group’s departure was highlighted in the media, adding that she was pleased to announce that one of the candidates in the second group was from St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Last year during a media briefing, Scantlebury announced her company’s partnership with other businesses in Dubai to recruit people for hire.
The company was looking for people in finance, accounting, public relations, advertising, information technology, engineering, hospitality, health care, human resources, sales and marketing, and administration.
Scantlebury said her company was trying to extend the application process and job programme to Asia and Europe to enfranchise more Barbadians. (SB)
