ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Barbadian seamers Shamilia Connell and Shakera Selman are out of the West Indies Women’s squad for the third CG Insurance T20 International (T20I) cricket match against South Africa on Saturday.

They will be replaced by Cherry Ann Fraser and Karishma Ramharack in the 13-member side. First ball is 2 p.m. in the Eastern Caribbean, 1 p.m. Jamaican time, at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground (SVRCG).

“The 2nd T20I did not materialise the performances hoped for. However, the 3rd CG Insurance T20I gives the team a chance to level the series. It would require all players lifting their performance,” said lead selector, Ann Browne-John.

“One of the bright spots so far in the series has been the bowling of the young player, Qiana Joseph. Another spinner, Karishma Ramharack, has been brought in along seamer Cherry Ann Fraser to replace the two seamers Shamilia Connell and Shakera Selman. It also gives the selectors a chance to see additional players before we go into the CG Insurance ODI series.”

West Indies Women lost the 2nd CG Insurance T20 International against South Africa Women by 50 runs at the same ground on Thursday, and rain affected the first match.

The five CG Insurance ODIs will be played from September 7 to 19, with the first three matches being played at the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) and the last two at the SVRCG.

Summarised scores: South Africa Women 165-3 in 20 overs (Lizelle Lee 75, Laura Wolwaardt 33 n.o.; H. Matthew 2-43). West Indies Women 115-8 in 20 overs (Britney Cooper 26, Chedean Nation 26; Marizanne Kapp 3-31, Ayabonga Kaka 2-8). South Africa won by 50 runs.

South Africa Women 135-3 in 20 overs (Marizanne Kapp36, Laura Wolwaardt 35 n.o.). West Indies Women 21-1 in 2.5 overs. Match abandoned. (PR/SAT)
