Cursing mum put on bond

The behaviour exhibited by a foul-mouthed mother, who cursed a parish constable while he was on the job is becoming “common place” in today’s society.

“I just think that we are in a space where this is the kind of example that the children now are getting; that these people who are supposed to be raising children cannot conduct themselves in any better fashion,” Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes declared yesterday.

Weekes made the comments as he dealt with Tara Mahalia Shavon Smith, who was before him in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.

Smith, a 32-year-old proprietress of Chancery Lane, Christ Church, had admitted she used the insulting language – “You are nobody. You are a f****** ignorant c***. Ya mock police” – to Parish Constable Winston Gittens, who was acting in aid of members of the Royal Barbados Police Force on September 6. (HLE)
