Standing as a surety is a very serious obligation.

So stressed Magistrate Manila Renee as she ordered a sister, who stood as her brother Jabarry Jaziel Grant’s surety, to forfeit part of the $10 000 bail sum when the parties appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court, Cane Garden, St Thomas yesterday.

“You cannot come and stand as a surety and think that it is a very easy thing. It is a very serious obligation,” the magistrate said yesterday.

Grant was later remanded to HMP Dodds after that surety was allowed to withdraw.

The 28-year-old accused of 2nd Avenue Lennox, Goodland, St Michael, and of Westbury New Road, St Michael, is facing five counts of robbery and one count of theft between 2012 and 2015. (HLE)
