Angry patients assault QEH staff
In just the last week, more than three medical practitioners at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) have been physically assaulted.
One nurse was punched in the chest by an angry patient, a doctor was hit in the face, and a nursing practitioner assaulted while dealing with a vexed patient.
Director of medical services Dr Clyde Cave said assaults on QEH staff by Barbadians have become all too common, and they are worried it could spiral out of control.
He told the Weekend Nation that staff being hit by patients was nothing new and professionals knew it came with the job, but the number of physical assaults, though not leading to serious injuries, had increased significantly in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. (BA)
