People’s Champ, the emphatic winner of last month’s Barbados Guineas, will today become the hunted.
The colt, owned by Kids Syndicate and Stephan Narinesingh and trained by Andrew Nunes, will try to defy 11 quality starters, whose one mission is to derail his triple crown quest at the Garrison Savannah.
They square off in the 4:25 p.m. feature 1 800 metres Barbados Midsummer Creole Classic for a purse of $78 000. Under champion jockey Rasheed Hughes, People’s Champ should appreciate the extra distance and is the one to beat.
Both trainer and jockey will be after a second success in this event, having won with Kendal Moon in 2011 and Oberoi in 2017. Gunning for them will be trainer Robert Peirce, who has a four-pronged attack in the form of De Conkie Man, Bazodee Gyal, Cavalier and Tudor Rose. (LY)
