Health authorities said on Wednesday, 199 new novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases were identified in Barbados by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.
The new cases comprise 96 males and 103 females and were the result of 2 351 tests conducted on Tuesday.
The authorities said the new cases include 65 young people (under the age of 18) and 134 adults (over the age of 18).
There were 858 patients in the island’s isolation facilities.
The public health laboratory has now identified 8 180 confirmed cases (4 026 males and 4 154 females) of COVID-19 out of 315 319 tests since testing for the viral illness started in March last year.
Also, the health authorities said 134 122 first doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme.
They said, 103 846 people (38.3 per cent of the population) have received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and are fully vaccinated.
