251 new COVID cases and four deaths yesterday

Two hundred and fifty-one new COVID-19 cases, comprising 111 males and 140 females, were recorded on Saturday, October 9 from 2 249 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The new positives consist of 69 people under the age of 18, and 182 who are 18 years and older.

There are 579 people in isolation facilities, and 1 947 in home isolation.

Four deaths were recorded – three Barbadians, aged 60, 69, and 85, and a 59-year-old St Lucian national. They were all unvaccinated.

There were 10 918 confirmed COVID-19 cases (5 292 males and 5 626 females) since the start of the pandemic in March last year.  The number of deaths from the viral illness, as at October 9, was 94.

The laboratory has carried out 340 759 tests since February 2020.

Public health officials administered 141 820 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines.  A total of 111 734 people – 47 046 males and 64 688 females – received second doses and are fully vaccinated.

This number represents 41.2 per cent of the total population or 48.9 per cent of the eligible population which comprises those who are 12 years and older. (BGIS)
