The Barbados Licensing Authority (BLA) is preparing to clear the backlog of more than 80 000 customers waiting for their plastic Barbados driver’s licence.

Minister of Transport Ian Gooding-Edghill, while addressing a media conference yesterday at The Pine, St Michael headquarters of the BLA, said everyone waiting for a licence should have one by the middle of next month.

He said 100 000 of the specially designed and manufactured cards and laminate had been ordered and received from the United States and around 10 000 of them had been printed with driver information thus far.

The minister said the process of distribution had already begun via the General Post Office’s Courier Service as they did not want people heading to the BLA en masse due to COVID-19 restrictions. (CA)
