Local Tourism officers were qualified to lead the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI), says former minister of tourism Richard Sealy.

So if the Government wanted to capitalise on Jens Thraenhart’s expertise, he should have been added as a consultant, and not appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO), he added.

Speaking to the DAILY NATION on Saturday while campaigning at Scotts Gap, Brittons Hill, St Michael, Sealy made it clear that he had no issue with Thraenhart, a German-Canadian tourism practitioner, but maintained that members of the teams who worked under Barbados Tourism Authority head David Rice and former BTMI chief William ‘Billy’ Griffith, who resigned in 2019, were trained to eventually lead the organisation.

Thraenhart, whose appointment was announced last Thursday in a press release, takes up office from November 1. (TG)
