The Barbados Football Association (BFA) selected a 20-man squad to represent the island at the Concacaf Under-20 qualifiers in the Dominican Republic later this week.
The squad was selected following a series of trials and training sessions under the guidance of Under-20 head coach Fitzgerald “Fitz” Carter.
They were placed in Group C alongside rivals Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Caribbean neighbour St Vincent and the Grenadines. The games are scheduled to be played at the Estadio Felix Sanchez from November 5 through 14.
Earlier this year, the senior men’s football team was involved in Concacaf World Cup Qualifying in the Dominican Republic, winning one and drawing two of their four games.
Their junior counterparts will be hoping for vastly improved fortunes when they get their qualification bid underway on Friday. The Barbadians will oppose Puerto Rico on November 6, Bermuda on November 8 and St Vincent and the Grenadines on November 10.
The four group winners and the region’s top 16 teams, based on the Concacaf men’s Under-20 rankings, will receive a bye to the Championship to be held next summer. The team is currently in a bubble ahead of departure on Tuesday.
