Funeral homes to hire more

Some funeral homes may have to hire more workers to help with the rise in COVID-19-related deaths, says president of the Barbados Association of Funeral Directors, Ian Griffith.

He said that would be necessary as funeral homes have to be even more cautious about the way they handle bodies.

“Some funeral homes may see an increase in the amount of work that they have, then they have to look at sanitisation and the administration they have to put in place. So one or two funeral homes might see themselves having to bring on one or two more people to assist in those areas. If you are having more deaths they have to be accounted for in terms of handling and you can’t force all the work on one or two persons.”

Griffith, who is also the managing director at Earl’s Funeral Home, said that since the pandemic began, several funeral homes dedicated people to do removals for COVID-19 cases and dedicated people to other types of deaths. (TG)
