Family members and close friends, prominent members of the business community, polo players and company employees were among the many Barbadians who turned up at the Elliot Williams Polo Field in Waterhall, St James, yesterday to pay respects to late business magnate Sir Charles Williams.
His sons Stephen and Teddy Williams and their families; brother Ralph “Bizzy” Williams and wife Shelly Williams; general manager of C.O. Williams Construction, Neil Weekes; director of C.O. Williams, Philip Atwell; director of Williams Industries Inc., David Staple; Harry Manning of Harry Manning Associates, and director of the Elcock group of companies, Adrian Elcock, were among those seen paying their respects to the man who built up C.O. Williams Construction into a local and regional force.
Heavy-duty machinery operators Cecile McClean, Cosmo Forde, Randolph Goodman and Trevor Best, who worked for Williams when he started the firm, were also there.
Sir Charles passed away on November 19 aged 88. His name is associated not only with business, but polo and horse racing. He will be buried today after a thanksgiving service. (SB)
