Esso staff upset over closure of Paynes Bay station
Employees at Esso Service Station, at Paynes Bay, St James say they were left in shock when management informed them on Independence Day that they were ceasing operations at the station.
“They gave us no prior notice,” a staff member said, adding that Tonya Trotman, the chief relations officer of Parkwood Enterprises, the company which leased the station from SOL Petroleum, delivered the news to them around 3 p.m. in a Whatsapp work chat.
Yesterday when a Daily Nation team visited the station there were signs at the pumps indicating that the business was closed.
While efforts to reach Roger Barrow, the chief executive officer of Sol were unsuccessful, a senior official indicated that new management was taking over soon.
Staff who worked at the station, however, said they had not been informed if they would be hired by the new management as some expressed anger at how they were told that they would no longer have a job. (MB)
