Election may be Mia’s last

Prime Minister Mia Mottley gave a strong indication on Thursday about bowing out of elective politics, once the next term of parliament comes to an end.

Mottley told supporters attending a political meeting of the governing Barbados Labour Party (BLP) in Six Roads, St Philip, that the forthcoming January 19 general election is likely to be her last.

“This refuelling stop – because this is what this election is – it is a stop to refuel, it is a stop to take fresh guard, it is a stop to continue the transformation of this country, and I say this to you in all humility,” the BLP leader said.

“I may not be there at the end of this journey because the transformation is going to take more than five years, and I have said over and over that I believe that this will be my last term, but I will give it my all…”
