The old Caribbee Hotel in Hastings, Christ Church, is being torn down, and from next Monday, the beach and walkway next to Blakey’s Bar & Grill will be closed to facilitate this.

In a release yesterday, the National Conservation Commission (NCC) said the closure will run until January 26.

The demolition work, to be undertaken by C. O. Williams Construction, is to be carried out from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day.

The NCC said with trucks and other heavy equipment operating in the area, and removing construction materials from the site, a decision was made to close the beach “to protect the public from injury”.

“The cumulative processes will represent an elevated hazard to persons on the beach and boardwalk in this area. This effect is especially compounded at night when users may not be able to see potential hazards within the work zone,” it added. (BGIS/BW)
