Smooth process at LT Gay

Scores of early voters turned up at the Lawrence T Gay Memorial School in St Michael at the crack of the gates at 6 a.m. to exercise their democratic rights.

It was a smooth process to elect the next representative for the constituency of St Michael West Central.

Quite noticeable was the strict adherence shown by individuals to the health regulations put in place by the Electoral and Boundaries Commission, while members of the COVID-19 Monitoring Unit were on hand to ensure all protocols were followed.

Mask-wearing voters had their temperature checked and hands sanitised before proceeding to the ballot boxes to cast their votes.

By midmorning, voting had slowed to a crawl before a slight increase around noon.

Incumbent Barbados Labour Party representative Ian Gooding-Edghill seeks a second term in office but will have to turn away four others in order to do so.

He is being challenged by attorney-at law Curtis Cave representing the Democratic Labour Party, former teacher Veronica Price who runs on an Alliance Party For Progress ticket, Angela Edey for Solutions Barbados and Bajan Free Press hopeful David Roberts. (LY)
