Worry over Arch Cot building plans

Residents in Arch Cot, Brittons Hill, St Michael, continue to express fear that nearby construction could affect the ecological system under their homes, possibly ending in another cave-in.

Yesterday some of them called in the media to outline their concerns after several acres of land next to the area where an apartment complex collapsed 14 years ago, killing a family of five, has been cleared without any notification to residents.

Last October, it was revealed that the land had been sold to a nearby business in Chelston Avenue, which borders Arch Cot, and that a factory was being built on it. At that time the Town & Country Development Planning Office reported there was no application for any development in that area.

Alvin “KC” Best, whose two-storey house is still standing next to where the apartment and another house fell, told the DAILY NATION yesterday he was informed by reliable sources that two buildings were being erected and a road cut as well. (RA)
