Families taking shelter at the Barbados Workers’ Union’s Frank Walcott Labour College in Mangrove, St Philip, are not being thrown out, says acting Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Corey Lane.

During a site visit yesterday, Lane, who is parliamentary secretary in the ministry and was standing in for substantive Minister Kirk Humphrey, told the Sunday Sun there were some inaccuracies being circulated regarding temporary living arrangements there.

He said the 26 families were being relocated to facilitate preparations to set up the Labour College as a COVID-19 isolation facility.

“In the briefing yesterday (Friday) as Acting Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, the matter of the move from the Labour College, involving persons displaced by Hurricane Elsa from July 2, was the first matter brought to my attention,” Lane said. (SB)
