519 new virus cases

A total of 519 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases (234 males and 285 females) were identified on Wednesday, February 9, from the 2 189 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The positive cases comprised 79 people under the age of 18, and 440 who were 18 years and older.

There were 186 people in isolation facilities, while 11 806 were in home isolation.

A 94-year-old woman died on Monday, February 7, while another, aged 93, passed away on Wednesday, February 9.  They were both unvaccinated and succumbed to the viral illness at the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility.

As at February 9, there were 291 deaths from the virus.

The public health laboratory has carried out 560 845 tests since February 2020, and recorded 50 477 COVID-19 cases (23 399 males and 27 078 females).

Under the National COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign, the total number of people with at least one dose is 159 275 (69.7 per cent of the eligible population).

The total number of people who are fully vaccinated is 148 055 (54.6 per cent of the total population or 64.8 per cent of the eligible population).

The eligible population represents people who are 12 years and older. (BGIS)
