The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) will be placing more community tanks, establishing desalination tanks, stepping up its mains replacement programme and using a treating agent to prevent rust from getting into the water.

All this in an effort to alleviate ongoing water woes in the north, where some residents are either experiencing brown water coming from their taps or none at all.

On Tuesday, Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw held a media conference in Round The Rock, St Lucy, along with officials from the BWA and the Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources.

“The problems here in St Lucy are two-fold primarily. There is a problem with water quality where you have brown or saline water and then there’s water supply in general. There are a number of solutions we are looking to put into place over the short, medium and long terms,” said BWA director of engineering Charles Leslie. (CA)
