The Barbados senior netball team returned from a successful debut at the second edition of the OECS Netball Series in Roseau, Dominica, on Friday afternoon to receive great news as they set their sights on the upcoming World Qualifiers and the Commonwealth Games.

The Bajan Gems, who won all five of their matches at Windsor Park, were told by new Minister of Sports Charles Griffith that the way was cleared for them to train at the indoor Wildey Gymnasium, when he met them at Grantley Adams International Airport.

“This is my first opportunity as Minister of Sports to welcome home and applaud a successful Barbados team. I am hoping to replicate many other opportunities like this and, to that end, I have sought and gotten clearance for you to train at the Wildey Gymnasium. I know how much better your preparation and performance can get once you can fully exploit the indoor facilities for your training,” he said.

Previously, Griffith, who once served as vice-president of the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association, had said that it was critical that sports reopened in the island and that by monthend a decision would be made to allow the playing of domestic sports. (KB)
