Member of Parliament for St James North, Edmund Hinkson, is inviting young people to sign up for the upcoming installment of the Life and World Skills Programme.

Hinkson made the call during a thanksgiving church service this morning at the Church of God, The Garden, St James.

The biennial programme was not held last year as a result of the spike in COVID-19 cases.

“With the country having opened back up, curfew off, we will start the new programme in May. We urge all young people who are not employed or under employed to come to the programme,” he said.

Participants are usually tutored every Saturday over a two-month period, at the end of which, they receive a certificate of completion.

Hinkson, who on Sunday celebrated his third term representing the constituency and is a life member of the Lions Club of Bridgetown, said historically, 80 per cent of graduates from the programme would usually find employment or start their own business two months after graduating.

“I came to politics to help those who are most vulnerable, those who might not have acquired the amount of skills they may have wished for, but wish they had been given that opportunity,” he said.  (RA)
