Hinkson to push for equal rights

Article by RACHELLE AGARD

Chairman of the yet-to- be established Disabilities Commission, Edmund Hinkson, says with the Estimates Debate starting in the House of Assembly this week, he plans to push for the advancement of the most vulnerable people in society.

“People with disabilities must have equal rights legislatively in this country, as everyone else, and must be included in all aspects of our society. Certainly, all three times I’ve been a candidate I made sure on election day to hire transportation for people with immobility to go to the polls, because they have to participate in our society just like anyone else,” he said.

Hinkson, the Member of Parliament for St James North, was speaking on Sunday during a thanksgiving service in his honour, a month after his sweeping General Election victory on January 19. It was held at the Garden Church of God, Reid Road, The Garden, St James.

The attorney credited his sister Celia, who was born deaf, for his heavy involvement in championing the cause of people with disabilities.
