The Private Sector Association is welcoming the news that Crop Over 2022 is on.

Yesterday, chairman Trisha Tannis said there was a high demand for the festival and she expected it would have a good impact on the economy.

“It is welcomed news particularly for those who were without income from that sector for two years and it was extremely good news for small businesses and other sectors that benefit from Crop Over. So I think it is a step in the right direction,” she said.

“There is no doubt about the demand for the festival and we look forward to the generation of economic activity coming from Crop Over.”

Tannis added that while stakeholders were still awaiting the rules and guidelines from the Ministry of Health as to how to go about hosting Crop Over events in a safe manner, she anticipated they would be well patronised.

The business executive said she was also looking forward to seeing large scale events, similar to that of the recently held T20 cricket series between the West Indies and England at Kensington Oval, being hosted.

Last Saturday during a national televised press conference, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announced that there would be a modified festival. Mottley said the details were still being worked out but some major changes to the format were already set due to the pandemic.

She said Foreday Morning and Grand Kadooment would be decentralised events and hosted at eight venues. (SB)
