West Indies were 65 for three in their second innings against England at tea on the final day of the second Test on Sunday at Kensington Oval, after being set 282 to win.

At the break, Windies captain Kraigg Brathwaite was not out on 32 and his deputy Jermaine Blackwood was not out on 14, after England declared their second innings on 185 for six declared during lunch.

Before tea, West Indies lost opener John Campbell caught at forward short leg off left-arm spinner Jack Leach for 10 in the sixth over when he played defensively forward and the ball ricoheted from the glove to the fielder.

Barbados Pride batsman Shamarh Brooks was caught in the slips off pacer Saqib Mahmood for four when he edged to second slip, where fielder Zak Crawley palmed the ball into the air and England captain Joe Root moved from first slip to grab.

Nkrumah Bonner, a century-maker in the first Test, was then caught at first slip off Mahmood for three when he was squared up and edged a delivery that moved late.

The Windies were 39 for three, but Blackwood came to the crease and batted for almost an hour with Brathwaite to ease the nerves of the hosts before the break.

Mahmood has been the pick of the England bowlers so far with 2-11 from five overs.

The Windies have not lost a Test to the English in nearly two decades at Kensington Oval, and they have lost only twice – in 1994 and 2004 – in the history of Tests between the two sides at this ground.

The first of three Tests in this series ended in a draw this past Saturday at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua, and the final Test will be played from March 24 at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada.

Summarised scores:

ENGLAND 507 for nine declared (Joe Root 153, Ben Stokes 120, Dan Lawrence 91, Chris Woakes 41, Ben Foakes 33, Alex Lees 30, Jonny Bairstow 20; Veerasammy Permaul 3-126, Kemar Roach 2-68) and 185 for six declared (Dan Lawrence 41, Zak Crawley 40, Jonny Bairstow 29, Alex Lees 24, Ben Stokes 19; Veerasammy Permaul 2-29, Jayden Seales 2-00).

WEST INDIES 411 (Kraigg Brathwaite 160, Jermaine Blackwood 102, Shamarh Brooks 39, Joshua da Silva 33, Alzarri Joseph 19, Jason Holder 12; Jack Leach 3-118, Saqib Mahmood 2-58, Ben Stokes 2-65) and 65 for three (Kraigg Brathwaite 32 not out, Jermaine Blackwood 14 not out, John Campbell 10; Saqib Mahmood 2-12).
