Barbados has registered an increase of a viral infection which affects children.

Just like COVID-19, hand, foot and mouth disease can lead to children developing fever and showing signs of extreme fatigue, which also present if they have the flu.

Consultant paediatrician at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Dr Clyde Cave, is asking parents to watch out for certain symptoms similar to each of those three viral illnesses.

“We are seeing a new mild strain of hand, foot and mouth disease. It has been going around quite a bit in recent times,” he told the MIDWEEK NATION. “It’s a viral infection. It’s very common and has multiple strains.” (BA)
