The new second generation Nissan Leaf is proving to be a fast seller at Courtesy Garage Ltd a few weeks after Government implemented a cost-cutting policy on electric vehicles (EVs).

Yesterday, during the launch of the vehicle at the Wildey, St Michael dealer, regional product manager, vehicle sales department, Samuel Gaston said the majority of the vehicles the company recently imported were sold.

“The interest has been tremendous since the announcement last month . . . I did a check yesterday (Wednesday) and 95 per cent of what we have on the ground is booked to go,” he said.

Last month the company, in a press statement, announced that it had received a shipment of about ten of the vehicles with another 60 on the way.

During the Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals on Monday, March 14, Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced that from April 1, an excise tax and value added tax holiday on EVs would come into effect for 24 months. (SB)
