Bollywood producer hoping to work in Barbados

Article by Sheria Brathwaite

Indian film producer and one of the popular names in the Bollywood film industry, Rakesh Sabharwal, is in Barbados for a week to explore the possibility of doing movie productions here.

Moments after arriving at Grantley Adams International Airport yesterday, he said he was pleased to be finally in Barbados as plans had been in motion for his visit about six months ago.

“The film industry of Bollywood is spread all over the world. We have visibility in 85 countries. From the day the film releases in India, the same day it is shown in 85 countries. As Barbados is a beautiful island, I think Bollywood directors and producers would like to shoot their products here. (It would create) a lot of employment, a lot of investment, a lot of things will come because Bollywood is great. We make 1 200 films a year.

“This relationship for Bollywood as well as for culture and tourism would greatly improve the countries’ relationship,” he added. (SB)
