Williams second in 200 in Jamaica

Sada Williams clocked an impressive time of 22.85 seconds to finish behind double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah in the women’s 200 metres at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association’s SDF Jubliee Series over the weekend at the National Stadium in Kingston.

Williams, Barbados’ national record holder over the distance and rising sensation in the women’s 400 metres, returned to the shorter distance as preparation for a busy summer and looked in familiar territory.

Jamaica’s Thompson-Herah, the first and only woman to win consecutive sprint doubles at the Olympic Games (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020) produced a time of 22.55 seconds for victory.

Both Williams and Thompson-Herah flew out the blocks and around the curve, but as they approached the home stretch, the Jamaican icon kicked into an extra gear and eased to the finish line.

Her compatriot, Stephanie-Ann Mcpherson, who is Williams’ training partner at the MVP Club, finished third. (AGB)
