Barbados brushed aside by Cuba

Barbados slumped to a second consecutive defeat in Group A of League B in the Concacaf Nations League (CNL) going down 3-0 to hosts Cuba at the Estadio Antonio Maceo on Sunday here in Santiago.

Head coach Russell Latapy made five changes to the side that lost 1-0 to Antigua and Barbuda last Thursday in St Lucia, but the Tridents were trailing from the 35th minute when William Pozo curled a right-footed effort past Kishmar Primus from the edge of the box.

The opener came against the run of play as Barbados soaked up early pressure from the Cubans while threatening with attacking midfielder Omani Leacock and striker Armando Lashley on the counter attack.

However, Cuba, playing a very quick and impressive style, broke down what was proving to be a stubborn away team, after the ball fell perfectly to Pozo who scored with his first shot of the game in front of a partisan crowd which included close to 2500 local spectators. (AGB)
