North Sound – Bangladesh, sent in to bat, were 76 for six in their first innings at lunch on the first day of the first Test against West Indies on Thursday at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.

At the interval, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan was not out on 27 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz was not out on two, and have so far put on 31 for the seventh wicket.

Kyle Mayers has the flattering figures of 2-10 from five overs, and fellow pacer Kemar Roach has taken 2-21 from eight overs.

Before lunch, Roach made the breakthrough when he got Mahmudul Hasan Joy caught at third slip for a first-ball duck, playing defensively forward to a delivery that bounced awkwardly.

He then bowled Najmul Hossain Shanto for a duck in the third over of the match with the left-hander playing defensively forward to a delivery that moved back between bat and pad.

Jayden Seales tightened the early grip of the Windies when he removed Mominul Haque caught at second slip for a duck with a delivery angled across the left-hander, and fellow pacer Alzarri Joseph got Tamim Iqbal caught behind down the leg-side for 29 with the long-serving left-handed Bangladesh opener trying to glance a wayward delivery.

Mayers then struck twice in his first over when he got Liton Das caught behind for 12, playing defensively forward, and trapped Nurul Hasan lbw for a second-ball duck, offering no stroke to a delivery moving back sharply, and Bangladesh sunk to 45 for six.

West Indies have included uncapped Guyanese leg-spinner Gudakesh Motie for his Test debut, making him the 328th player to wear the maroon cap.

Long-serving pacer Kemar Roach was also named in the final 11 after he recovered from a hamstring injury he got when representing Surrey in the English County Championship this past April and passed a fitness test on the eve of the match.
