Folks cry out after shooting

In another incident of gunplay, residents scampered after shots were fired in 2nd Avenue, Thomas Gap, President Kennedy Drive, St Michael, and two men injured yesterday afternoon.

They also joined the chorus of Barbadians pleading with authorities for stricter enforcing of measures against the background of the recent surge in gun violence.

When a Daily Nation team visited the area, officers had cordoned off the area by a shop in the area sometimes referred to as “Vietnam” and were placing markers in the road.

The lawmen placed a number of indicators at the points where bullets had penetrated a shop in the area.

Police said they responded to a shooting which occurred at about 1:10 p.m. yesterday afternoon where one man left the scene by car to seek medical attention at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, while another was reportedly injured. (RA)

  1. I’m seriously concerned and some what confused after listening to the AG and Police commissioner press conference a few days ago. First, let me be unequivocally clear that it was a photo op. They both lacked knowledge and experience when it comes to addressing the crime in Barbados. Having the tools, and without trained and experienced law men defeat the purpose of your scope. Blaming others for your failures is aggregious and misleading. Resolving crime in Barbados cannot be accomplished without the inclusion of undercover operatives, trust between the lawmen and citizens, and accepting that corruption does exist within the force. Presently they are several experienced Barbadian retired NYPD detectives who are living in Barbados and among them is NYPD top gun and narcotics investigator and trainer. These former detectives are unlikely to help because of integrity issues and they have no confidence in the Barbados police force to protect their privacy.
